Itai Musings, after a long hiatus

So much has happened, and I wish I'd managed to get it all typed in. But, here's some highlights--just from the last week!

Itai has been trying to decide what he wants to be when he grows up. We've gone through zoo-keeper, baker, farmer, inventor, and a few others. The latest--he wants to be a rabbi. "Great!" I said. I can think of nothing better.

A few nights later, we're laying in bed. Itai's friend Nadav is really into Star Wars and has told Itai all about how a Jedi trainee has to make his own light saber in order to become a Jedi. So, in all serious, Itai asks: "Eema, do I have to make my own siddur before I can become a rabbi?"

The next day, he wants to play Zoo Tycoon on the computer. The following dialogue ensues:

Itai: Let's play Zoo Tycoon.
Ayla: No, I want to play something else.
Itai: I really want to play Zoo Tycoon.
Ayla: I thought you didn't want to be a zoo-keeper anymore.
Itai: I don't, but there are no good rabbi computer games!

And, that night, we're watching Antiques Roadshow on PBS. In the middle of the show, Itai chimes...

Itai: How do we know that some guy didn't just think of the idea of G-d and then tell everyone about it because he thought it was a good idea, but there really isn't any G-d?

Me: ....well, I launched into some over-long explanation of faith and reason and we don't know but really do know, and all that...

Itai: How do we know that it was G-d who wrote the Torah

Me: well, another long explanation of how we can't know for sure, but there's faith, and the Torah has so much wisdom, and so on and so forth

Itai: Gets up, giggles, runs behind the couch, does something on a piece of cardboard and brings it to us. In big writing, it says:

? ? ? ?

Okay...and today, on a more mundane topic:
Itai: Eema, I've been thinking, and I think that I'm not so fond of piano as an instrument. I don't think it's really my style.

Me: Oh, what is your style?

Itai: Drums.

We're not canceling the piano lessons just yet.
